The Bribery Act 2010 brings a modern and complete approach to bribery and corruption to allow the tackling of offences in the private and public sector more effectively.
Included in the measures is the creation of two general offences that cover the offering and the accepting of an offer, and a new offence of failure by an organisation to prevent bribery if it cannot prove that it had ample processes in place.
This course explored the new regulations of the Act and how this affects the current situation within a local authority. Throughout the day the council's processes were examined to assess whether they provide sufficient protection against bribery and corruption. How to prove offences and implementing systems and controls with a risk based approach were also covered.
